Life took a steep turn for her when she won the coveted title of Miss India-World. Delhi girl Pooja Chopra is now in South Africa, vying to win the Miss World crown as she competes with other 120 beautiful girls from different nations.
Talking about India at Miss World, we know how our beauties like Aishwarya Rai and Priyanaka Chopra have made us proud. The title of Miss World has been won maximum number of times by India and Venezuela, 5 times each. This year, all eyes are fixed upon Pooja. Can she clinch the crown for the sixth time?
“I have worked very hard with my trainers. I am nervous and anxious but I’m also excited. I am aware that it is a huge responsibility and this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. So I keep reminding myself to enjoy it,” says Pooja.
A few relationships down the drain hasn't made Bollywood princess Priyanka Chopra a pessimist about love. Once bitten, the lady isn’t shying away from the possibility of falling in love again. Ironic that she plays the leading lady of a film titled "Pyaar Impossible."
Promoting the movie by Yashraj Films, Priyanka told the reporters in Mumbai on Tuesday that ‘Pyaar Impossible’ is a film everyone can easily relate to.
“It's a very sweet and interesting film. And I believe every person would be able to relate to it because every person at some point of time in their life thinks that they love someone whom they cannot get, and cannot have in their own life,” Priyanka said. She was with the film’s writer and co-actor Uday Chopra, who plays a geek in the film.
“Well, I am a firm believer in love and I always believe that love is never impossible, and this film will hopefully second that,” Priyanka said without revealing anything personal about her love life.
Former Miss India and Bollywood babe Neha Dhupia is the face of the ‘Go Green’ campaign. And the sultry siren had no qualms going topless for the ‘Go Green’ movement to create awareness for global warming.
The exclusive ‘Go Green’ calendar features Neha in some authentic stills. This is an initiative in support of the Go Green Franchise Community Initiative. The lady has worn creations by Neeta Lulla and has been photographed by ace fashion photographer Jatin Kampani.
After Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan's ground breaking transformation to Auro in "Paa", its now the turn of daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan to undergo a drastic makeover.
Buzz has it that Aishwarya will be playing an old lady in a few scenes in Vipul Shah's forthcoming Bollywood flick "Action Replay", for which she will have intensive make up sessions with Hollywood make up artists.
Besides Ash, "Action Replay" also stars Akshay Kumar and Randhir Kapoor. The film is currently under production and is expected to release in April 2010.
The leading Bollywood superstar of "Veer" - Salman Khan suits the bill perfectly as the star performed a life threatening scene not once, but twice, all for the sake of the film.
Reveals a production source, “A robbery scene required Salman bhai to run on the top of a moving train. He did not use a stunt double, nor was he afraid. This stunt was a dangerous one, as one slip and he would have hit the ground and could have been pulled under the train with the speed it was moving in!”
“Salman Khan wanted another retake as he felt he could do it better, ” confirms the source.
And in all this intensity Salman managed to keep spot on to his humor and in true Salman Khan style while the train would pull in reverse without a care in the world, Salman, we hear would lie down on the train until it was time for another take.
Shahrukh Khan is taking Bollywood to a whole new level! Apparently being the King of Bollywood isnt enough for Shahrukh, now he wants to become the King of Porn! He shocked one and all when he said that he wants to be a porn star. The actor was at a launch management for guru Arindam Chaudhuri's new book 'Discover the Diamond in You' when he revealed his desire.
"I always wanted to be porn star. I am going to work with all the positivity and clarity to be a porn star," Shah Rukh said much to the amusement of the packed audience.
Where did this development come from? "I have always been a huge fan of Syllvester Stallone, who was a porn star before becoming Hollywood superstar," the actor said. Shah Rukh, famous for his outrageously funny remarks did tickle the funny bone of the audience who was in for a laugh riot while listening to the actor.
And it was the icing on the cake when the actor said, "I will take my flag and put it up in America after becoming the biggest porn star of the world."
For once it's kind of a relief to report on some actual work related news for a certain trouble red-headed actress. A few months back I reported that Linsday was headed to India to shoot a documentary for the BBC. According to the NY Post, it's actually happening! The "Mean Girls" star is working with the BBC for a documentary on poor children in India. Here's hoping this is the beginning of more work related news coming from the actress!
While I'm not a huge follower of the "Twilight" series (although I must note that I gave in and read "Twilight and "Breaking Dawn"), Robert Pattinson can count me in as one of his endless number of fans. As a sexy, self-deprecating ("I'm a bore") Brit with a sense of humor , what's not to like?
"The Times of India" did a phone interview with Pattinson getting him to dish on the usual topics we've seen rehashed and torn apart over the past few months: his diet & exercise regime, preparation for the role, industry idols ( Jack Nicholson), his love life...
Thankfully, the interviewer got to some more interesting questions specifically about Rob's Bollywood interest. With the convergence of Hollywood and Bollywood and "Slumdog Millionaire's" success it seems every star is being asked about their interest in the world's most prolific movie center. It was kind of refreshing for Rob to be upfront about his semi-cluelessness regarding Bollywood films and India. Rob does have a slight connection to India though as he worked with Mira Nair in "Vanity Fair" ( a part that was cut out).
"Though I have seen a couple of Hollywood films having an Indian touch and that’s where I see Indian actors and they are great-great performers. Names are hard to recall you know. Then this year’s Oscar showed us glimpses of Indian actors and India in Hollywood while Slumdog swept all the awards, so I guess it is needless saying how far the Indian cinema has come."
Rob has a busy year ahead of him promoting "Remember Me" (out next March),"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" next summer and filming Bel Ami with Uma Thurman. He has often talked about recording music after his break.
Straight from Mallika herself is the teaser poster for her flick "Love,Barack"! In the romantic comedy set for release next year, Sherawat plays Aretha Gupta a campaign volunteer who falls for a volunteer from the opposing Republican team.
Mindy Kaling plays one of my favorite kooky characters on television and fortunately Mindy likes to keep it quirky off screen as well. With the announcement of her deal to co-write the script for the romantic comedy "The Low Self Esteem of Lizzy Gillespie" which also happens to be backed by both Drew Barrymore and John Malkovich's production companies, all Mindy could talk about was her love of crime shows and defense tactics.
One easy and obvious strategy? Kaling suggests sleeping with a baseball bat by one's bed. Check out her chatfest with Conan.
No, the pretty Bollywood princess isnt isn't playing a role of that kind or being a part of the famed Spiderman series. Actually Kareena has donned the get-up of Spider Woman (or rather should we say posing like spiderwoman) for an Italian watch brand (Chronotech), of which she recently became a Brand Ambassador, as a part of string of advertisement campaigns.
Just a month ago when this international brand was being launched in India, Kareena had sported the look of a Cat Woman and that of mermaid for the advertisement.
By now its common knowledge that Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is a perfectionist to the core. The cast and crew of 3 Idiots got a first hand experience of this during the shooting of the film. For a particular scene in the film, the trio of Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi and R. Madhavan had to be shown drunk. It was a night shoot and Aamir suggested that they actually get drunk to make it look more authentic. Poor Sharman and Maddy had no choice but to listen to their senior co-star.
After taking a few retakes, the unit realized that they had run out of reel in the middle of night. When Raju Hirani got to know about it, he was worried because he didn’t want this shoot to extend for another day and didn’t want the cast toget drunk again.
Finally the team managed to get a reel to wrap up the shoot. After this interesting incident they surely much have said ’Aal Izz Well that ends well.' The Bollywood blockbuster is set to be released on December 25th 2009!

Check out Jay Sean's newest music video for his single "Do You Remember" ft. Lil Jon and Sean Paul! Shot in Hollywood but meant to resemble New York City, Jay Sean reminisces about better times.
"I love the idea of the street vibe," Sean told MTV News on the video set last month. "Having folks together, out in the street at midnight. The video is all about having fun, having a party, enjoying yourself. So, we did the whole block-party thing!"
The video was shot in Los Angeles and features cameos from fellow Cash Money/Young Money artists, Birdman and Tyga. Of course, having the King of Crunk and the purveyor of the imperial blaze on hand only served to further kick the party vibe up a notch. Check it out below!
India-born model Padma Laskmi, who is six-months pregnant, bared it all for a photo spread to be featured in the latest issue of a magazine. The Top Chef presenter is seen sitting and bending both of her knees to cover the front part of her body while offering sharp look to the lens through her right shoulder on the cover of Page Six magazine, Aceshowbiz reported.
"I like me better naked. I don't mean that in a vain way ... When you put clothes on, you immediately put a character on. Clothes are adjectives, they are indicators. When you don't have any clothes on, it's just you, raw, and you can't hide," Padma tells the magazine.
The 39-year-old star, who once was married to award-winning author, Salman Rushdie, also says that she's still reassembling her life after their split in 2007. Padma has yet to reveal the identity of her baby's father.
We've all heard of "die-hard" fans. Fans often go mad over their favorite movie stars. Apparently, many times their act of madness causes them to shed blood! Bollywood hunk Akshay Kumar was caught in a very similar situation when a die-hard fan slashed one of her wrists because she could not meet him.
Says a source close to the actor, "Preeta (name changed to protect identity of underage girl) stalked him for a year. She'd run away from home in Lucknow to meet him and would land up everywhere just to catch a glimpse of him and talk to him. But Akshay always has heavy security around him and she didn't get her way."
One day, she happened to land at Akshay’s residence and asked the guard to allow her to meet Akki. As usual, the guard turned down her request. Unable to convince the guard, the girl slashed her wrist in front of them. Luckily, Akshay Kumar was present at his home at that moment and the guard informed him about the incident, he rushed to the girl and took her to the hospital.
The source continues, "Once she was stitched up and out of danger, he spoke to her. He made her understand and try and see things from the right perspective, and even called her parents in Lucknow and got them to come to Mumbai. Then he invited the girl along with her parents to his home for coffee and asked them to take care of her. He told her that she had to look after her parents as family is important and he was very attached to his own. Now the girl's parents have sent her abroad for her further studies but she's in touch with Akshay once a month. She writes to him keeping him posted about her developments."
Well, the girl got her wish, but at what cost. What do you think?

Oscar winning actor Ben Kingsley, who plans to make a film on Taj Mahal, visited the monument along with his wife Daniela Lavender. He spent more than two hours at the Taj and mingled with visitors, many of whom took pictures with the 67-year-old.
Sir Ben plans to play Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in his dream project called “Taj”, Daniela will act as Kandhari Begum, Shah Jahan’s first wife of Persian origin. I guess its not only actors and actresses receiving fan mail from ardent admirers claiming their undying love and devotion to them. However, this time, it was Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar's turn to receive a female fan's admiration. The lady also proposed to him!
On Sunday afternoon, Karan Johar received a huge parcel from Uzbekistan. Karan was pleasantly surprised to see a specially designed carpet which had his image. It also had a letter from a girl named Dilbahar. On reading the contents of the letter, Karan realised that it was a love letter in which Dilbahar had proposed marriage to him.
Although Karan remained unavailable for comment, a source from the Dharma Productions office confirmed the news and said, "Although Karan thought that it was nice of the fan to write some kind words, he couldn't help but feel embarrassed by the contents of the letter."
There's something about Salman Khan’s attitude and style that makes filmmakers aspire to do a heroic film with him. When the actor thumps his well-sculpted chest and gnarls in aggression, then unreal becomes real and that’s why Bollywood films like ‘Wanted’ go on to be a super-hits!
According to sources, Boney Kapoor is considering the idea of making Salman Khan play the role of a larger-than-life character aka Superman in the sequel of ‘Mr India’.
So, tell all the Sallu fans out there to get ready to see the actor jumping off cliffs and carrying mountains on his bare back!
She is undoubtedly the eternal pride of India, who can rightly be called the 'Living Goddess'. The latest one to adorn the beauty of the legendary singer's already overflowing showcase of awards is that of the French government, who will confer the Insignia of Officer de la Légion d'Honneur (Officer of the Legion of Honour) on her. Lata humbly bows to another acknowledgement of God's generosity.
"I don't know why God continues to shower his largesse on me when I've reached an age when I've received more love and honour than any human deserves. But the French are a class act. And I feel doubly honoured to be chosen by them."
I must say the French have good taste. Laughing at the observation, Lata says, "People say recognition has no meaning beyond a certain stage in one's growth as an artiste. I say it's never too late to be told people love you."
In George Tiwari's novel, "What Once Was" a chance encounter between two people blossoms into love then marriage and a seemingly smooth life. But an afternoon bonding session with Aditi and her son turns into journey exposing Aditi's mysterious and sad past. I had a chance to chat with George Tiwari on his book which is now available at all major bookstores and amazon.com (a perfect gift for the holidays!)
Can you tell me about writing background and briefly about yourself? Is this your debut novel?
Writing is simply a hobby but after my 2nd book my hobby has become more serious of recent. This is my second book. The first book was a memoir and is titled "The Indian in Me." I recently had the honor of giving my book to Mira Nair, director of many great films such as "Amelia, The Namesake, Monsoon Wedding and the list goes on. I await that one important call that could lead me one step closer to my dreams of seeing "What Once Was" on the big screens.
By profession I am a nurse, nursing instructor in both the college and high school levels. I was born and raised in S. California where I reside with my wife Anita and children Simran 9 and Adam 5.
Is this book inspired by any events, people or places in your life or completely fictional?
The book is based on fiction. I sat down one day and decided to write my 2nd book. I closed my eyes and watched the entire story play in my mind. It was just a matter of putting it in writing thereafter.
Aditi comes from a tranditional, proper and non confrontational type of background. What do you think made her break from character and appraoch her admirer in the coffee shop?
Without giving too much away of the story, I would simply have to say that she was tired of being alone. What lead up to the coffee shop began way back in her childhood. As people have read the book they have stated to me that they could feel her pain, they could see the scene happening in front of there very eyes, the moment felt so real as if they too were there.
Why didn't Aditi reveal full details of her past to Michael?
Again without giving too much away, she was afraid of feeling the loneliness that has followed her throughout her life.
You did a great job building up the moment to the big reveal. To be honest, as tragic as the events in Aditi's life was I thought it was something even more disastrous. What are your thoughts on free will vs destiny?
I am a firm believer in Destiny and that everything truly happens for a reason. I am sure there are many Aditi's out there in the world who will read the novel and defintely relate to the story.
You know things are going great when you had the no. 1 song in the country (Jay Sean's "Down") and the music industry's current sweetheart Taylor Swift is one of your fans. Swift tweeted earlier this month that she loved all of his songs on his album: Dancing around my kitchen to 'do you remember' by @jaysean. I love every song he's put out so far!1:25 PM Nov 15thfrom Echofon
Sean is busy promoting his new album "All or Nothing" and will be making an appearance on BET's "106 & Park" chatting with a live audience.
The accolades keep coming in! "Entertainment Weekly" compiled a list of "24 International Hotties" and while it's no surprise that Aishwarya Rai and Slumdog's Freida Pinto made the list, Naveen Andrews kinda of made me go, huh? It's not that I don't appreciate the tall, dark and rugged but Andrews isn't someone who strikes me as a "hottie" or even someone worth a neck turn ( now his acting, that's a different story).
The magazine rationalizes that Andrews on "Lost" has perfected the slow-burn smolder. And of Ash? "Her ethereal beauty is so intense that even Bollywood's prudish regulations failed to stifen her charisma."

Hrithik Roshan is all set to play the lead role, however, unlike its counterpart "Krrish," Priyanka Chopra will not be seen romancing Hrithik. Rakesh Roshan wants to rope in Bollywood princess Deepika Padukone!
Letting us in the secret, a source further reveals that Rakesh Roshan has zeroed down on a plotline whereby Krrishbattles his evil counterpart in the sequel. Apparently, Rakesh is keen on having Hrithik play an evil character ever since he saw his performance in "Dhoom 2." Krrish will be seen saving the 7 wonders of the world, which makes a perfect foil to include extensive shots of diverse foreign locations.

"De Dana Dan" is a Priyadarshan film so you can expect a laugh riot! Despite not even being able to speak fluent Hindi, Katrina has still managed to win the hearts of the public.
"Ra-1," which in Egyptian Mythology stands for the the Sun God, is the title of King Khan's latest Bollywood venture. Aside from the much awaited "My Name Is Khan," Shahrukh Khan is developing (according to sources), one of the most expensive Bollywood films to date.
As his partner in crime, Shahrukh Khan has allegedly roped in Kareena Kapoor to play the part of the superheroin. Hollywood scriptwriter, David Benullo, who has previously scripted Hollywood films like ‘Cupid and Shadow Man’ and ‘Hallowed Ground,' is signed onto the project. So why does Bollywood turn to Hollywood for talent? Is there not enough within the industry? Well, the actual reason is that "Ra-1" is not your typical masala Bollywood flick. Loads of special effects will be used, along with lots of action sequences. Shahrukh wanted someone who could do justice to their initial idea, hence Hollywood writer David Benullo was approached. The news was confirmed by director Anubhav Sinha.
The movie is expected to go on floors by end of this year, after filming for "My Name Is Khan" is completed. It is to be said that this project is apparently Shahrukh's dream movie, as his son Aryan wanted to see him as a superhero on-screen.
What do you think about the Bollywood "jodi" (pair) as superheroes?
Akshay Kumar is the ONLY star from the worldwide entertainment industry picked to carry the Olympic Torch for the 21st Winter Olympic Games to be held in Canada from February 12 to 28, 2010.
Akshay Kumar can now add this to his already long list of accomplishments. Does the trailer give you sleepless nights? Check it out here!
What if being thin was a law? For many, being skinny is a necessity for fashion and social acceptance purposes but in Japan, it’s a LAW. Concerned with rising rates of metabolic syndrome, a combination of health risks, including stomach flab, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, that can lead to cardiovascular disease and diabetes, the Japanese lawmakers set a maximum waistline size for anyone 40 years and older. Though there is no guarantee this “metabo law” will save money by preventing obesity related health risks, residents of Japan are taking every measure possible, from buying fitness equipment and joining gyms to popping herbal pills, in an effort to lose weight.
Japan is already known as the slimmest industrialized nation. They might not have obesity problems but according to a professor of medicine at Tokai university, there exists a problem of leanness in young women.
Is such a law necessary? Will forcing women to be more conscious about their weight cause a rise in eating disorders among younger girls?
In real life Bollywood starlet Katrina Kaif's marital status may be single, but in the realm of scandals, she is indeed married to MLA Ramesh Mendola.
Katrina voiced her opinion here, stating: "Obviously, it’s a fake certificate! I have never been married in my life and neither do I know this guy at all. It’s stupid and illegal what he has done and the police have already filed a case against him. The cops called me to say that this man had issued a fake marriage and they are taking action against him. I guess the more famous you get, the more people do such silly things. I was in New York on December 2 shooting for New York – the day this man claims to have married me.”
The IMC has taken the issue seriously and will soon lodge a complaint with the police so that the persons who have participated in this scancel can be booked for the approrpirate crime.
I guess that's good news to all the guys out there: Yes, Katrina Kaif is in fact not married. Good luck!
Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor star in the mega Bollywood blockbuster "3 Idiots." While shooting for a romantic song titled "Zoobi Doobi," the pair was seen sizziling in the rain.
The two Bollywood superstars have never been paired before; therefore, audiences all around are creating buzz about their chemistry. Kareena compares her chemstiry with Aamir Khan as on par with that of her boyfriend's, Saif Ali Khan: "Both Saif and Aamir are very dear to me. I think I’ve created magic with both co-stars and it is impossible for me to choose one over the other.”
Stick around the Desi You blogs to get updates on whether or not Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor create sparks for "3 Idiots!"
We all know Bollywood hunk Akshay Kumar isn't really a loser. He sure is playing one in his next Bollywood film though! "Housefull," directed by Sajid Khan, stars Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Ritesh Deshmukh, Arjun Rampal, Lara Dutta and Jiah Khan in lead roles.
In the movie, Akshay Kumar lends his voice for the song titled "He's Such a Loser," which makes sense because his role in the movie is that of a geeky boy. Akshay confirmed this: “I am playing a loser of all losers, and the crazy director that Sajid is, he has made a song to make all idiots in the world feel like absolute idiots, (even then, compared to me, they`re probably still cooler...)"
I think it'll be interesting to see the Bollywood action hero take on the role of a mild, timid loser! I wonder if he can pull it off. What do you think?
Ask any child to name their favorite superhero. You'd expect answers such as Batman, Superman, Spiderman; but would you expect any child to say Amitabh Bachchan?

Amitabh Bachchan has clearly paved Bollywood and this just proves his outstanding fan devotion and following.

If you can't seem to get Aziz Ansari out of your head these days, you've probably been reading a lot of this blog, for which I thank you. But really, you could say Ansari is seemingly ubiquitous: he's done numerous print interviews, has a weekly popular television show, "Parks and Recreation", and has made appearances in some highly visible movies. Think that's it? The funny guy doesn't seem to be slowing down as he's shot a comedy special set to air on Comedy Central next January 17th, "Intimate Moments for a Sensual Evening."
Ansari is so excited about his special he hypes it up to Ew.com telling them, "It's bigger than the time I filled up my Quiznos Q Rewards Card, but smaller than the time I filled up four Quiznos Q Rewards Cards."
What's got Aziz even more thrilled? Being named one of Marie Claire's "15 Men We Want to Date". He tweets: Is it weird that I'm so psyched to be ranked higher than Tim Riggins on this list??"
Oscar-winning music maestro, AR Rahman, is all set for his new album of nursery rhymes! Yes, you read that right.
According to One India, Rahman has been hard at work on this project for some time now and will be putting his own twist to classics such as "Jack and Jill" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."
He's not alone in this venture, he has the Bollywood Queen, Katrina Kaif, by his side. How does she fit into all this? No, Katrina isn't going to try her luck at singing, instead she'll be doing what she does best - lip syncing and dancing in the music videos for Rahman's album.
Will the Rahman and Katrina duo revolutionize nursery rhymes as we know them? Or will their endeavors lull listeners into a deep sleep?
Farhan Akhtar is already preparing to bring out yet another fabulous project. After blockbuster hits such as "Rock On" and "Luck By Chance," Farhan looks to Hollywood for his latest venture.

"Slumdog Millionaire" co-stars Freida Pinto and Dev Patel battled the odds to be with each other on screen, so it's no surprise the pair are a couple in real life. Despite the 6 year difference, the duo have been going strong, so much so that director Danny Boyle commented, "they seem to be real soul mates and I'm sure much more than that."
The New York Post reported that Pinto is so enamored with Patel that she ignored admirers in L.A last week. Pinto wrapped up production in Woody Allen's newly named film, "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger" and can be seen worldwide as one of the faces of L'Oreal cosmetics.Patel can be seen next year in "The Last Airbender" from director M. Night Shyamalan.
The "3 Idiots" team is pulling all the stops. The soundtrack for one of the years most awaited films - "3 Idiots" was released today! "Prince - Its Showtime" stars Vivek Oberoi and Aruna Murty and is set for a December 11th, 2009 release.
Its already the first week of November and of course the best way to start out the weekend is with a heart-wrenching debate about which newest Bollywood movie to see!
This weekend, two huge, and albeit very different, films are being released: "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani" (APKGK) and "Jail."
"Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani" stars Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif. This is light-hearted romantic comedy that has a comic-strip slapstick feel to it. While on the opposite specturm is the Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mugdha Godse starrer "Jail." "Jail" is the epitome of a dark and gritty film and even has Neil doing a few nude scenes.
Need help making your mind about what movie to see? Check out the "Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani" and "Jail" trailers below:
We recently heard that Preity Zinta would be attending Harvard for an executive course in deal-making and negotiating. It makes sense then that this actress turned businesswoman has come up with a novel idea to generate funds - by creating an all-girls international basketball team!
According to Bolly Spice, this team will be known as "The Dream Girls." It will be composed of supermodels, international film-stars and famous personalities. Of course it wouldn't be a team unless there was a captain. Any takers? How about our favorite bubbly, Bollywood superstar Preity Zinta!
With Preity Zinta as the captain of "The Dream Girls," and expert coaching from professional NBA coaches, I'm sure they'd have a great shot at defeating the reigning champions - The Los Angeles Lakers! What do you think?
Is Aamir Khan's newest promotion stunt idiotic? Of course not, at least not when you're promoting a film titled "3 Idiots."
According to India Times Movies, Aamir Khan was seen in the women's restroom at a cinema complex, wooing the restroom's patrons. Aamir and gang felt that women use the restroom as hub for gossip, news, and a fair share of vanity. In turn, he thought he would grab the opportunity to "connect" with his women fanbase! The team even went as far as posting the "3 Idiots" posters on the toilet seats!
Are we shocked? Yes, but this isn't the first unusual promotion antic Aamir has done. For his hit movie "Ghajini," he place life-sized mannequins of himself throughout various cinema complexes.
Check out a silly promo video for "3 Idiots" here.
Check out this exclusive audio clip of Jay Sean giving a shout out to DesiYou! This isn't the only shout out he's given us, check out the first video here. As you know, Jay Sean just released his second single "Do You Remember" on November 3rd. Jay's got a knack for humor and we posted a video of him promoting his newest single.
Let's help take Jay Sean to higher heights and extend the South Asian community's influence in mainstream entertainment by buying his singles off iTunes! Stay tuned for his latest album "All Or Nothing" (releasing November 23rd).
2009 seems to be the year for Asian comics. Danny Pudi, Ken Jeong, Kunal Nanjiani and now Aziz Ansari! Ansari who hails from South Carolina, made his television debut of sorts with MTV's "Human Giant." He can now be seen in NBC's "Parks and Recreation", last summer's "Funny People", "Observe and Report" and of course finding ways to become unbored on his aptly titled blog, Aziz is Bored.
The National Post digs deep into what makes Ansari funny, something which even he isn't sure of.
Kareena Kapoor famous for her super svelte figure now has the skinny on Sony's laptops. Kapoor has been named the new face of the company's ultra-thin laptop, Vaio X. Although the "3 Idiots" actress has endorsed other products, it's a milestone of sorts as this is the first time Sony has used a brand ambassador in India.
Who else has represented Sony? Britney Spears. For more information on the laptop check out Engadget's scoop on the computer.
Thats right, King Khan's reign doesn't just stop in Bollywood; it travels the vast expanse of space and lands onto the Moon! SRK just celebrated his 44th brithday and I can't think of a better birthday present than owning a piece of the Moon. According to sources, a devout fan from Australia has been buying Shahrukh Khan pieces of the moon every year on his brithday.
Shahrukh Khan confirmed this and said, "Yes, an Australian lady buys a little land on the moon for me every year on my birthday. She has been buying it for a while now and I get these certificates from the Lunar Republic Society.”
"So You Think You Can Dance" - the hit American dance competition and reality show was graced with the presence of Bollywood dance. Bollywood is really taking on Hollywood in Vishal Bhardwaj's next untitled film. This film will be a remake of the Martin Scorsese directed and Oscar-winning thriller, "The Departed." Hrithik Roshan is all set to play Leo's character in the film. According to sources, Hrithik is going to be seen in a new avatar showing off his martial-arts skills and gun-totting abilities.
Vishal, known for his Shakespearean adaptations, brought "Othello" and "Macbeth" to the Indian cinema screens. Lets see how well he handles a Scorsese flick!
The untitled movie is planned for a Diwali release in 2010. Stay tuned!
The "3 Idiots" team is on a roll with releasing trailers and videos. Just a few days back they released the official trailer and we told you about it here. Just today they released the latest song promo of "Aal Izz Well," or for those of us that don't speak this unknown dialect, "All Is Well." Check out the promo below to see Aamir Khan and gang dance, whistle and bathe to this catchy tune!
"3 Idiots" stars Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman and Kareena Kapoor. The Bollywood film is slated for a December 25th, 2009 release.
Screenings with Bret Ratner, dinner with Hrithik Roshan (while being trailed by the paparazzi) and posing at Millions of Milkshakes. Mallika Sherawat is taking Hollywood by storm. The ballsy actress made her debut in "17 Kisses" or "Khawaish" and hasn't looked back since.
She made her overseas debut with Jackie Chan in "The Myth" a few years back and since then filmed "Hisss" directed by Jennifer Lynch. Sherawat who recently moved to L.A, has now signed up to star in "Love, Barack" playing a campaign volunteer who falls in love with a fellow volunteer from the opposing party (it's Democrat vs Republican).
Sherawat hasn't stopped at Hollywood, she also took a bite out of Silicon Valley and visited Twitter's HQ in San Francisco earlier this year posing for pictures and even giving a Bollywood dance lesson or two!
Previously, we showed you a short preview and poster of Aamir Khan's latest film "3 Idiots." The trailer was released worldwide but was taken down from video sharing sites such as YouTube. However, its official now and by the looks of this trailer we think Aamir has got another great movie in the bag.
"3 Idiots" is a story of three friends whose horrific grade point averages at the Indian Institute of Technology influence their friendships, love lifes and career choices.
Shahid Kapoor and dancing seem to be synonymous in Bollywood. Leave it to Shahid to rock the dance floor in films like "Fida," "Jab We Met" and his most recent blockbuster "Dil Bole Hadippa."
It was only a matter of time before the actor starred in a musicial specifically dedicated to dance - "Chance Pe Dance." The beautiful Bollywood princess, Genelia D'Souza, co-stars along side Shahid. Bollywood is truly fusing with Hollywood in this musical flick and even has choreographer Marty Kudelka (known for choreographing pop sensation, Justin Timberlake's, music videos) on board.
Looking at the trailer and title, you cant ignore the relevance of the word 'chance' here. Life sometimes only gives you one chance and its up to you to seize it. Or, you can do what Shahid does best - simply dance on it (pun intended)!
"Ilu Ilu" girl Manisha Koirala seems to have disappeared from Bollywood these days. The Nepali beauty, who earned rave reviews for her scintillating performances in Bollywood films like "1942: A Love Story" and "Bombay," is having a cold streak as of late. In fact, she is now considering an alternative career. Coming from a family that has a strong political background, Manisha confirms that she will indeed try her hand in politics.
However, the actress isn't interested in getting into Indian politics, but Nepal's. After all, that's her home country! But what surprises us here is that Manisha is contemplating shifting her base to Los Angeles. She claims she has a few assingments on hand to complete. Lets hope her political sojourns dont end up high and dry like her Bollywood dreams.
"Paa" is an upcoming Bollywood movie starring superstar Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Vidya Balan, and Paresh Rawal. The details of the film have been kept underwrap, but believe it or not - Abhishek plays the role of father and Amitabh plays his son! The production company flew in a special make-up team from London just for Amitabh's new look. It took the make-up team 4 hours to apply the make up and close to 3 hours to remove it.
Paa is to be released worldwide on December 4th, 2009.
Check out the first trailer of "Paa" and witness Amitabh's transformation:
In a reversal of roles Anil Kapoor plays someone other than the hero. As Middle Eastern leader President Omar Hassan, Kapoor is a guy who very much needs rescuing and who comes to save the day? None other than "24's" resident hero Jack Bauer ( Kiefer Sutherland). The "Slumdog" actor will be on the show's 8th season and is shown looking rather solemn (appropriate given he's a target for a major assassination plot) in the preview clip.
"24" will be premiering this January on Fox and centers around Jack Bauer coming out of the brink of retirement to save Kapoor. Kapoor is one of several new cast members including with Freddie Prinze Jr.
Preity Zinta sure means business! The bubbly leading Bollywood lady is heading to the ivy covered halls of Harvard University. Zinta confirms her plans to take an executive course in negotiating and deal-making, "I thought that since I spend so much time in the US, I might as well use the experience better."
Luckily for us this slight detour doesn't mean Zinta is retiring from the business of show. In fact she's gearing up to host and produce, "Behind the Seams" a look at the behind of the scenes action of the Kings XI Punjab team and is continuing to read scripts. Zinta isn't the only actress at the prestigious school. Ashley Judd announced in April she had enrolled in the school's Kennedy School Mid-Career Master in Public Administration program.

Additionally, pre-order Jay Sean's newest album "All Or Nothing" (out Nov. 23rd). Do your part and help support Jay Sean!
Check out this hillarious clip of Jay Sean promoting his newest single:
Shah Rukh Khan turned 44 yesterday (our belated wishes to you!) something which even he can't believe! The popular actor shared that despite his back injuries he still felt like a 25 year old. He spent his birthday with close family and friends and revealed that the secret to his youthfulness didn't stem from plastic surgery, but from enough sleep. Here's to more sleep!
It's a good thing too because Bollywood's reigning hero has three films lined up next year including the hotly anticipated "My Name Is Khan" co-starring Kajol directed by Karan Johar (releasing February 12th). The film has already gotten a lot of attention as Khan was detained at the Newark airport for you guessed it..being a Khan. Given how he downplayed the event at a South Asian Carnival in Chicago and later semi backtracked when some noted that Khan and his industry peers were overreacting because they weren't used to being treated like non-movie stars, it will be interesting to see what he says during promotions next year.
The New York Times profiles Kumal Nanjiani one of New York City's rising comics. Nanjiani, a native of Pakistan was first inspired by Jerry Seinfeld's HBO special. After studying computer science and philosophy at Grinnell college, Nanjiani performed at open-mike nights and took a writing class at Second City Chicago. He is currently writing for the Comedy Central Show, "Michael and Michael Have Issues".
For more information on the funny man read his profile here.
I confess, I'm not a big follower of the U.S version of "The Office" ( now the British Version..well just quiz me), but the show and cast always seems to catch my attention with their antics: The Diwali themed episode a few years back, pretty much anything Steve Carell, Ed Helms and Rain Wilson do and of course their always entertaining webisodes.
The latest webisode features Mindy Kaling's Kelly Kapoor and Ellie Kemper's Erin breaking out their inner auto tune pop singer diva with the debut of their band "Subtle Sexuality". NBC.com has a behind the scenes preview showcasing Kaling and Kemper prancing around in leopard print get ups and gold tights.
Kaling who also directed the clip, gets props from her co-stars including Ed Helms who says, "it's got a beat. You can dance to it." Helms was in last summer's "The Hangover" where he played a song about the movie's surprise guest, a Tiger.
India seems to be the hottest destination for star projects. Jermaine Jackson has been touring the country with Adnan Sami working on music, Julia Roberts spent time in Delhi filming Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir "Eat, Pray, Love" and now Lindsay Lohan tells Extra she's heading East!
The budding fashion designer and sometimes actress shared her plans to film a documentary in Behar for the BBC on child trafficking. It's been a rough couple of years for the actress as the only "highlights" on her resume have been failed movies ("Labour Pains" which went straight to T.V), rehab thrice in one year, and a much maligned job as artistic advisor to European fashion house Ungaro.
So what inspired Lohan to dive into charity? A meeting with Sir Richard Branson in Dubai. "I'm a little nervous, but I'm excited to do something like that."
She is scheduled to visit Behar before the Thanksgiving holidays.
Blue in the face, arms thrashing everywhere and breathing fire, Heidi Klum was angry. No this wasn't as a judge on her hit reality show "Project Runway", but as Kali Ma for Halloween. Heidi's representation of the Hindu Goddess last year (Kali Ma symbolizes death and destruction) wowed many, but also left Hindu groups outraged calling her costume "denigrating".
Klum, who said the costume was her assistant's idea has come up with a Top 10 Halloween Costumes list at MSN.com. While fun, the list plays it safe making use of the year's biggest trend: vampires. Among other suggestions? A Flapper, Police Officer and Bride of Frankenstein. Klum also advocates the use of body paint even referring readers to New York City artist Peter Brown who has "hand painted every inch of his body."
What do you think this year's costume should be for the supermodel? While her suggestions on MSN.com are pretty traditional (and dare I say a little boring), her past get ups have not been as such. Huffington Post has a great slide show of celebrity Halloween costumes and showcases Heidi dressed as the forbidden apple with husband and singer Seal.
Nope Freida Pinto hasn't left "Slumdog" co-star Dev Patel, but rather found herself in a movie with a title! The film, written and directed by Woody Allen now has a name titled, "You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger". Pinto will be seen in scenes with Josh Brolin, Naomi Watts, Anthony Hopkins and Antonio Banderas and is her first film since the runaway success of "Slumdog Millionaire".
Freida has been making headlines with her romance with former co-star Dev Patel and her endorsement for cosmetics giant L'Oreal. Check out pictures of Pinto on-set at Just Jared.
We told you about Jay Sean's upcoming performance on Ellen over the weekend, now check out the video. Sean opened up his performance with a little rap intro mixing Ellen's name in the mix then getting right into his hit single, "Down".
"Mitsein" a film debuting at the 11th Mumbai Film Festival (November 2nd) also happens to be Aparna Malladi's feature film debut. "Mitsein" features Smriti Mishra, Amit Garg, and Rupinder Nagra and has already won an award for "Best Art Film" at the Eugene International Film Festival. For more information on the film, check out their site: http://www.mitsein.us/
Jessica Simpson and mane man Ken Paves have been traveling the globe uncovering beauty secrets from women everywhere for her upcoming VH1 reality show,"The Price of Beauty". With trips to Morocco, Uganda and Japan, it looks like India is next on the blonde popstress's radar. Simpson will be working with former Miss India and "Bollywood Hero" actress Neha Dhupia who is India's ambassador for the show.
Simpson will be filming in India next week getting tips from Dhupia and will also be shown wearing a sari. The Price of Beauty which will premiere next year follows Simpson's journey exploring the meaning of true beauty in different cultures. Simpson herself has been at the end of ridicule, most recently in a Burger King/NFL commercial which targeted the singer's weight. Do you think the show will help defuse the criticism Simpson has faced over the past few years regarding her image?
What better platform for rising super singer Jay Sean to perform on than Ellen? The talk show host and new American Idol judge is a big fan of music often showcasing her favorite music and mega dance moves. Ellen has her audience and guests up on their feet dancing to the latest music.( See Barack Obama). Sean who tweeted about his appearance and live performance also posted a picture with the fun host saying, "http://twitpic.com/mncec - Me and Ellen! Watch me get "down" with her during my performance on Monday 26th oct!"

The Hilary Swank biopic "Amelia" opened in theaters today so naturally Academy Award nominated director Mira Nair was making the rounds with press interviews and media events. Nair, who's recent projects include "The Namesake" and "Vanity Fair" also held a reception to benefit her non-profit organization MAISHA co-hosted by IFFLA. Discover Nair's journey creating and filming "Amelia" in a great interview with NPR's "All Things Considered".
Jermaine Jackson is the second family member to relaunch his music career since his brother's death ( LaToya Jackson recently released a video) and is in India filming for a song with Adnan Sami. While Jermaine has been traveling throughout India, he also had the opportunity to visit Shah Rukh Khan's Mannat for a party. The former Jackson 5 member happens to be a huge fan of Shah Rukh Khan and was reported to have compared Khan to his late brother, Michael, "He reminds me of my brother Michael. He is so kind and so nice. He deserves everything in the world."
Vampires may still be all the rage, as evidenced by this past weekend's Scream Award winners ( see winners list) but there was more than enough room for sexy geeks. Kunal Nayyar from the CBS hit "The Big Bang Theory" was on hand along with his cast members to present the "Battlestar Galactica" cast reunion farewell tribute. Nayyar did a cute interview on the red carpet with Collider.com. He dished about everything from his "splurge"purchase when he found out the show had been picked up for a second season, interaction with real physicists ( Nayyar plays an astro physicists on the show) and upcoming guest Will Wheaton.
The 55th National Film Awards will be taking place on Oct 21st. Indian President Pratibha Patil will be presenting the country's most prestigious awards to several film personalities, including Shah Rukh's "Chak De India". Other honorees include singer Manna Day (for the Dada Saheb Phalke Award), Adoor Gopalakrishnan and Priyadarshan's "Kanchivaram" ( a Tamilian film)
The National Film Awards which were started in 1954 take place annually in New Delhi and are often considered as India's Academy Awards.
Uh oh, it seems the feelings aren't mutual. Kylie Minogue may be a big fan of Akshay Kumar and Bollywood, but critics would love to get the sexy singer out of their head and off their screens. The Aussie singer who is also currently on her first North American tour has a dance number in "Blue" with Akshay Kumar (see Chiggy Wiggy here). Criticism has been blunt with Minogue being labeled as "idiotic". Critic Anil Verma said of her performance, "She doesn't look good or even sound good."
The underwater action film, which is also one of the most expensive films in Bollywood to be made ( around 100 crore) was one of the most anticipated films this past Diwali weekend. "Blue" also stars Sanjay Dutt, Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta.
These days it's hard to tell which piece of fruit, color or cartoon character-super-hero celebrities will name their kids after, but Padma Lakshmi is pretty confident the name will be relatively normal. Lakshmi, who was one of the co-hosts of this past weekend's Black Ball (put together by Alicia Key's charity, "Keep A Child Alive") told People.com, "The name will have to do with my family. I don't think its going to be called Pomegranate or Atlanta."
In fact, Lakshmi is willing to wait until after the baby is born to help her find inspiration, "I just want to see how the baby looks when it comes and then I'll have some idea."
Till then, Lakshmi is still eating and tweeting, telling followers that she had "2 mangoes tall glass of milk and big bowl of beef stew."
Who has the power to write their own destiny? Daddy daughter duo Anil Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor who are featured in Montblanc's Indian television debut. The commercial (watch here) shows Anil Kapoor reminiscing about sharing his desire to become an actor with his father and then his daughter
(who has quite a blooming career) Sonam replicating Anil Kapoor's moment with the same wish. Anil hands Sonam a Montblanc pen as a powerful tool in hopes of recreating magic moments and the"power to write your own destiny".
The White House just got more glee. Penn Masala, the country's first Hindi a capella group performed "Ayesha" during the White House's Diwali celebration. Alternating between English, Hindi and Arabic, the guys sang and beatboxed the classic originally performed by Algerian artist Khaled.
Penn Masala which started in 1996 has performed for a variety of audiences, including the Star Screen Awards in Mumbai and also were on stage alongside Academy Award winner A.R. Rahman. Penn Masala also received the Project IMPACT Award for Outstanding Contribution to the South-Asian American Community in 2003. Their latest album "On Detours" can be purchased at their site on on iTunes.
Watch the performance along with Obama's ceremony and speech about the Asian-American community here.
Along with President Obama's active role in the Diwali ceremony (lighting of the diya), he also took time to record a special YouTube message summarizing the significance of the occasion. Obama, our country's first multiracial president encouraged everyone of "cross denominations to make a habit of empathy to reach out to those most in need."
While this is pretty consistent with the Obamas's overall message of peace, I'm also going to give him major props for not butchering potential tongue twister words like "mithai", "sanskrit" and "Sal Mubarak".
Looks like there's another big name star attached to a beauty product. Along with Vidya Balan (who is the face of GoodKnight products), Aishwarya Rai (L'Oreal) and model Mugdha Godse (Mysore Sandal soap), Kajol is now representing Oil of Olay as their brand ambassador. While there's nothing wrong with Oil of Olay and certainly fits with her clean cut-head in the right place-mom on the go image, it would have been great to see the bubbly star play up endorse a product playing up her other features.
After Aishwarya, I've always thought Kajol has the most beautiful soulful eyes. We know she can be sexy and playful, as witnessed by her recent Vogue Cover with Shah Rukh Khan. Why not work it with L'Oreal or Lakme? Kajol can be seen next in the hotly anticipated "My Name Is Khan" where she plays a single mother who falls in love with Shah Rukh Khan's character who suffers from Aspergers Syndrome.
Filming for the big screen adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's memoir "Eat, Pray, Love" has wrapped in India, but the residents near the ashram in Delhi can't seem to forget the pretty women. There was some controversy while Roberts was filming. Reports of complaints from villagers and residents who were peeved that the intense security was disrupting their daily visits to the ashrams were abound, but those were refuted by anonymous crew members who wrote into the Huffington Post.
Sachin Sharma one of Robert's many security guards shared with the Indian Express that Roberts wrote "Thank you" notes to team along with an autograph. Roberts, Sharma says was not unlike her on screen persona, "Julia had no airs. She always said hi to me and bid me goodbye after dinner."
Roberts can be seen next in "Valentines Day" an ensembles romantic comedy with other big name stars such as Jessica Biel, Ann Hathaway and Ashton Kutcher.
Pregnancy hasn't changed what the "Top Chef" host and judge eats. Lakshmi who recently went on Regis and Kelly told the hosts she was enjoying everything, with the exception of sushi! Lakshmi also documents her nutritious meals via her twitter page: Lunch: 3 meatballs in tomato sauce tall glass milk Thai chicken soup apple juice and a Bowl of chicken noodle soup at Viand on Madison.

Can't get enough of Jay Sean? The R&B crooner is currently at No. 1 on VH1's Top 20 Video countdown. You can help keep him there by voting here. Sean recently hit No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with his single kicking the Black Eyes Peas out of the top spot after 26 weeks. While the former medical student is grateful for his success, he recently told the UK Press Association that he is "just a science geek at heart" opting to read "New Scientist" than partying. Sean's new album "All or Nothing" hits stores November 24th.
If the title of Aziz Ansari's blog, "Aziz is Bored" is to be believed, hardly anything eventful happens to the "Parks and Recreation" star. So when tweet after incoming tweet about his appearance on Letterman today rolled in, I knew it had to be something worth getting excited about. The funnyman revealed that while fellow guest Sienna Miller didn't stick around for his interview, musical guests Linkin Park was plenty appreciative.
"Parks and Recreation" is in its sophomore year on NBC and also stars Amy Poehler. The show, which got off to a slow start has now been praised for marked improvement. Wondering where else you saw Ansari? He played the role of a rambunctious and smutty comedian RAAAANDY in Judd Apatow's "Funny People".
For all the non-Bollywoodites looking to get a taste of the Slumdog fantasy flavored waters of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar seems to be the go-to actor to be paired up with-for the moment. In late 2007, Kumar was dancing and swapping fried chicken and curry with uber relaxed rapper Snoop Dog. This month's release "Blue" features the actor and martial arts expert getting "Chiggy Wiggy" with Aussie songtress Kylie Minogue.
For the most part, all seems to have been going well. Apparently, Kylie Minogue is a huge fan of Kumar, particularly "Chandni Chowk to China" and he's been the highlight of several award shows, even leaving one of the most eloquent men in the industry Ambitabh Bachchan speechless (see:37 mark). So which high profile celeb should Akshay be seen paired up with next? Given that Akshay is a Karate black belter and martial arts expert, how about an athlete or Kimbo Slice? Definitely not as sexy but can you imagine the fight scenes?
The accolades and adventures keep coming for Akshay Kumar. The Bollywood heartthrob who once started out as an action star with hits like "Khiladi" has been honored with the Katana-known to be one of the most revered and highest honors in martial arts. The martial arts trained star tells "India Today" he hopes to start his own karate school and was thrilled at the award, "This day has been a longstanding dream. Karate, along with my father, has made me what I am today. Goju Ryu karate has been the longest love of my life".
Kumar also revealed that he attempted to start a school years ago but never had enough land. The actor, who shares the screen with Aussie Pop singer Kylie Minogue in this month's release "Blue" has also earned a sixth-degree black belt for his work and contributions to the field of martial arts.
Resul Pookutty the academy award winning sound technician from "Slumdog Millionaire", "Ghajini" and "Saawariya" has been invited to be a voting member of the Academy of Motion Pictures. Pookutty along with music maestro A.R Rahman is one of 134 new invitees this year and part of a family of 6000 members who play a role in deciding who will take home the coveted golden statue. Pookuty is of course over the moon telling the Press Trust of India, "I consider it a great honour and am thrilled."
While we are proud of Pookutty and Rahman's accomplishments, do you think this will have any impact increasing the chances of "Harishchandrachi Factory", India's entry for Best Foreign Language film? The marathi language film tracks the making of India's first feature length movie in 1913 and was chosen over Bollywood films such as "New York" and "Fashion".
Will the real Ajay Bhatt please stand up? As part of Intel's "Sponsors of Tomorow" campaign, the company touts its "rockstars" including the co-inventor of the USB port, Ajay Bhatt. Only Bhatt is portrayed by funny man actor Sunil Narkar. Who exactly is the real brilliant inventor?
Intel being a major sponsor for the The Tonight Show with Conan 'O Brien is often featured in comedy bits (watch funny Intel is Inside moments) and Friday's show featured an interview with Conan and Bhatt. Conan being Conan was full of silly questions and suggestions telling Bhatt that he had a similar idea, only was going to call it the "jub jub hole". Conan then shared some of his inventions (a pen that writes oatmeal, a comb that's also a brush "a cush"). The segment ends with the real Bhatt mimicking Narkar walking down the street in gold shoes pointing and acknowledging the crowd.
Can Jay Sean get any higher? The British R&B singer has a hit song, an upcoming performance at Justin Timberlake's charity concert in Las Vegas and now a No. 1 Hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with "Down". Sean, a former medical student has been battling the Black Eyes Peas for the No 1. spot and ended their 26 week dominiation this week. Sean is not only high on the success, but spinning at the news. "My head is spinning. I've been grinding hard for the last seven years releasing records independently and now to have the biggest record in the USA this week. It's just a dream come true."
The song "Down" also features rapper Lil Wayne. Sean's past chart toppers include two Top 10 hits in 2004 under Virgin Records. His new album "All or Nothing" which drops November 24 is a first for him in many ways. The new album will be his first U.S release (under hip-hop label Cash Money) and his first foray into a more soulful sound. In an interview with singersroom, Sean says, "I just want people to be able to hear the diversity of the album."
Details surrounding Padma Lakshmi's pregnancy have been scarce, till now. The "Top Chef" host slash model opened up to "People Magazine" about her daily routine. Among the must haves on her body? Butter, which Lakshmi says help combat itching, "Every morning, there's a buttering ceremony after I get out of the shower. It's really like basting a turkey with body butter."
While Lakshmi is mum on who the father of her baby is, she is very open about her battle with endometriosis, a condition which can lead to infertility. Her pregnancy according to Lakshmi's doctor is a "medical miracle". This past April the foodie hosted a "Blossom Ball" a fundraising event with "30 Rock's" Jane Krakowski and Helene Christensen to help create awareness about the condition. Padma can be seen on the new season of Top Chef-Las Vegas every Wednesday.
Preity Zinta is coming to a small screen near you! The actress is reported to have been paid Rs. 10 crore for an eponymous talk show, "The Preity Zinda Show". The weekly chat fest will feature celebrity interviews and is set to roll this year, around mid-December. Other than an upcoming cameo in Salman Khan's "Main Aurr Mrs. Khanna" the perky actress hasn't been in too many Bollywood productions. She is the co-owner of the Mohali IPL team.
Zinta isn't the first celebrity to venture out on the small screen, in fact she joins a growing list of Bollywood celebrities including Ambitabh Bachchan's "Who Wants to Be a Crorepati", Karan Johar's wildly popular "Koffee with Karan" and Farah Khan's "Tere Mere Beach Mein" an Oprah style show.

Bollywood veteran Aamir Khan has never been one to shy away from controversial or unique topics. He landed in hot water after voicing his opinion on the Narmada Dam construction, explored learning disabilities and dyslexia in the critically acclaimed "Taare Zameen Par" and is now working on a film about the fatal and devastating disease, AIDS.
The Academy Award nominated actor will be starring in a Priyadarshan directed film about AIDS alongside South Indian actor Mohan Lal and will mark the first time Khan and Priyadarshan have teamed up. The film, which was announced in 2008 was originally meant for Akshay Kumar. Aamir Khan has been keeping busy with a full plate of projects: He has been filming "3 Idiots" with Kareena Kapoor ( "3 Idiots" has highly publicized kissing scenes) and recently signed on to co-star in Anurag Kashyap and Danny Boyle's eagerly anticipated film "Bombay Velvet" with Shah Rukh Khan and John Abrahams.
In addition to films, this past summer Aamir met with U.S Secretary of State Hilary Clinton to discuss the current state of education in India.
Oh boy, I can tell this guy is going to make the girls go wild! India West interviewed Danny Bhoy an Indian-Scottish comedian who recently relocated to Los Angeles. Bhoy who has already made waves in the U.K and Australia will appear in a one-hour comedy special all about him on Comedy Central early next year. Unlike Russell Peters, you won't find him joking about say a Chinese person selling an Indian person a Louis Vuitton or his experiences growing up a minority, "Sure, I have some material that revolves around my childhood, though I had a very Scottish upbringing. I don’t favor comedy about how different we all are. For me, comedy is the great uniter.”
Bhoy has a facebook page in which he's updated with a few notes to fans sharing his experiences in Los Angeles and the comedy club scene. During the month of October Bhoy will be touring across Canada. Check out his site for more news and pictures.
Shobhan Bantwaldoes things her own way. As a child growing up a in a strict Brahmin family, she was a non-conformist: riding bicycles, socializing with boys and playing sports. Today, things aren’t that much different. Her drive, creativity and family support has led her to becoming an accomplished author for some unconventional topics, “I wanted to be a different kind of South Asian writer. I enjoy mainstream books with a little romance in them. Growing up I wondered by somebody wasn’t writing books like that”.
I had a chance to interview Shobhan about her recently released book, "Sari Shop Widow". With its elements of family, fun and romance, "Bollywood in a Book" (which she characterizes it as) is as fun and engaging as anything on the big screen. "Sari Shop Widow" can be purchased at bookstores or on amazon.com
Women’s social issues seem to have fueled your last two books “The Dowry Bride” and “The Forbidden daughter”? What inspired the “Sari Shop Widow”?
I live in NJ and I shop at Little India quite a bit for clothes, jewelry and all kinds of Indian things. Every time I went there I felt it would be the perfect backdrop. A tale centered on somebody who owns a business. I would go into these shops and think “these are cute shops...it would be nice to have a protagonist own one of these.". I wanted her shop to be unique and different the other shops around.
The name of the shop stands out as well
“Sapphire and Silk”. Most of them are called “Sari Emporium” which can sound a little mundane. I wanted Anjali’s to be more unique than that.
What do you think it is about Rishi that is appealing to Anjali?
I think the attraction for her is the fact that she assumes in the beginning that he is a bad guy who is out to swallow up her business. She is very protective and very territorial about her business. She recognized the fact that he’s not a bad guy and he’s there to help her. When she hears about his childhood the way he grew up (he has Indian values) I think she begins to fall for him. He also has an altruistic side. Rishi treats her uncle like a father that is amazing to her. He’s so British in every other way and so Indian in others. The combination is the best of both worlds. He will give her independence to think like a modern women and he doesn’t expect her to be a conservative Indian women.
Who inspired the personalities in the book?
Very few of my personalities are based on people that I know. Some of the cultural elements are things that I know such as food and fashion. All the cultural details come from personal experiences. Characters are fictional, entirely a product of my imagination.
I’ve noticed that in addition to Indian fashion, food is another prominent character in this book. What were some of your favorite comfort foods growing up?
I come from the Konkani culture and the food is very South Indian in style-idilis, sambar, rice and daal.
You characterize some of your work as "Bollywood in a book"- they’ve got elements of fantasy, tradition, lots of color. If your books ever converted into a Bollywood movie, whom would you see fit to play Anju, Rishi and the rest of the characters?
The Bollywood in a book is only a term I use with this third book. I thought it was a good way to introduce American audiences to Indian culture. American audiences have begun to understand concept of Bollywood. Every time I have a book discussion or book signing at a public location I ask “Does everybody know what Bollywood means?”, I would say 95% of hands go up. As for movies, I would say I would love Madhuri Dixit to play the main character.
It’s noted in your bio that are a non-conformist and very much a black sheep of the family growing up. Were you upto a lot ofmastigrowing up?
I was born in the early 50’s, growing up in a small rural town with a strict Brahmin family. I had three older siblings and one younger sister. All of them were good girls who were obedient. I can’t say I was disobedient, but I did things thattodayskids accept as very normal. But back in my day, girls riding a bicycle alone was not acceptable. I also used to climb trees.. none of my sisters did those things.
I can't get enough of the uber talented AR Rahman and judging by Rahman's current and upcoming projects, neither can Hollywood. In addition to scoring the upcoming ensemble romantic comedy (led by Vince Vaughn) "Couples Retreat", Rahman is preparing for a show stopping musical show in Los Angeles.
According to reports, A-List Hollywood is expected to attend-that means Sean Penn, Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise. Who else is happy? Hindu leader Rajan Zed who believes Rahman's peformance will be another opportunity to spread Indian music. As for Rahman's decision to work on "Couples Retreat"? He reasons in a recent interview,“I’ve reached a stage where I've to do new things. There are so many avenues to be explored. So Couples Retreat will be their kind of music with my touch, done in my way."
The Slumdog beauty is on a roll. Along with scoring a role in Woody Allen's untitled movie (which already wrapped up filming), "People Magazine" placed Freida on their annual "Best Dressed List" for making the most use of color. This past weekend, Freida's ads and a television commercial for L'Oreal was unveiled.
The dusky actress is touting L'Oreal's new Renewal Lash Serum which promises up to 80% longer looking lashes. The ads in full can be seen here along with her tv spot ( in german).
The New York Times reviewed Karan Johar's lastest production "Wake Up Sid" giving first time director Ayaan Mukerji the "one to watch" status. The romantic comedy follows the life of Ranbir Kapoor as Sid, a largely unmotivated and apathetic character, until he meets Aisha (played by Konkana Sen Sharma) an aspiring writer. "Wake Up Sid" is a film for people like Aisha and Sid: young and educated" says the author.
Official box office numbers for the film have not been released yet, but "Wake Up Sid" already has Ranbir Kapoor's father Rishi Kapoor incredibly proud.
"His performance has made everyone stand up and notice, whether it's the audiences, people from the industry or the critics.
With the kind of universal appreciation that he is getting, I am happy that he has done so very well for himself." he told the Indian Express.
Looks like "Top Chef" host Padma Lakshmi has another top priority. The actress, model and Emmy award winning television personality recently announced to Us Weekly she's pregnant. The news comes as a bit of a miracle as Lakshmi has endometriosis, a condition which causes irregular bleeding and can lead to infertility. What's got everyone guessing is the father of the baby, which Lakshmi has yet to confirm. Watch this space for more details on Lakshmi's pregnancy.
Vidya Balan wants to help you get a goodnight's sleep, free of mosquito bites. Which is why the actress is now the face of GoodKnight naturals.
"Goodknight Naturals mosquito repellent cream has unbelievable properties which make my skin feel safe whilst protecting me from mosquitoes during outdoor shoots, and the best part is that it is non-sticky" she explains. The new line is hoping to combat mosquito bites with the use of natural herbs like tulsi and lavender.
First Karishma now Kareena! Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor have reported to have filmed three separate kissing related scenes for their film, "3 Idiots". This hilarious photo shopped picture from Juicy Mausi isn't far off from off from what we should expect. According to reports one of the three kissing scenes involved Kareena kissing Aamir on the cheek, another is a "flying kiss" ( a take which the ever particular Aamir wanted 14 takes) and lastly a real lip lock. Aamir Khan is no stranger to mouth to mouth action, he and Karishma Kapoor had an intense scene in the rain for the 1996 hit "Raja Hindustani".
For more scoop on "3 Idiots" watch this interview with the film's screenwriter Chetan Bhagat.
There's already Oscar buzz surrounding Mira Nair's Hilary biopic Amelia starring Hilary Swank and Richard Gere. Now comes the news that the film will open up the first Doha Tribeca Film Festival. Nair is an accomplished director receiving past accolades for films like Salaam Bombay, Academy Awarded nominated Monsoon Wedding and most recently the Namesake. Hilary Swank is a two time academy award winner for her roles in Boys Don't Cry and Million Dollar Baby.

The awards which were presented by Wizcraft Entertainment and electronics giant Videocon were meant to recognize accomplishments in the field of entertainment, business, sports, and social welfare.
In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Karan Johar says Wake Up Sid is a wake up call and "a conscious decision to break the shackles of what we've done so far and what we've been doing. It's a step forward."
The film written and directed by Ayan Mukerji follows the direction less life of Sid (played by Ranbir Kapoor) a character who is largely unmotivated and lazy. After meeting with Konkana Sen Sharma's character, an aspiring writer he experiences a series of twists and turns compelling him to "wake up".
Karan dispels any concerns about the film being too preachy saying, "It's a very simple and an honest film. It's about a man who is at a career crossroad and how he overcomes his dilemma. It's endearing, emotional and soulful."
The film which opens October 2 also stars Anupam Kher.
As reported earlier, the Bollywood lovebirds made an appearance on Oprah in her "Meet the Most Famous People in the World" episode on Monday. Aishwarya who looked lovely in a sexySabyasachi creation along with the adorable Abhishek shared their "Bollywood" love story" with Oprah. Abhishek revealed how he proposed to Aishwarya on the balcony, their family lifestyle and a mandatory rule created by mom (Jaya Bachchan): If all members of the family are in the city they must eat at least one meal together.
One topic that seems to come up repeatedly is the issue of the young couple living with their parents. Apparently, even Abhishek got a little weary when he playfully retorted, "Do you live with your family? (To which Oprah responded: No) How does that work?
For more on the couple and their thoughts on Bollywood vs Hollywood love check out the two part interview below:

Julia Roberts (with Swami Dharmadev)is currently filming an adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's popular book Eat, Pray, Lovein India ( credit: AP)
Contrary to earlier reports that Julia Robert's filming of Eat, Pray, Love was preventing locals from praying at their temple, an anonymous crew member from the film wrote in to the popular blog, Huffington Post dismissing the news as "completely false".
"It's amazing that stories that aren't fact checked in India become fact in other publications. If someone bothered to contact Swami Dharmadev, he would tell them that the temple was open and that we filmed in other locations that day. Also, no children have been displaced from the school at the Ashram. And as far as the reports about 150 security men, bullet proof cars, 40 gunmen, and a helicopter... Absolutely ridiculous. So many untruths."
Most of Robert's scenes thus far have been shot at Ashram Hari Mandir near New Delhi, which is around Navratri, the holiest time of the year for Hindus.
There's no stopping Slumdog director Danny Boyle. It's been reported that Boyle is moving forward with a sequal to the 1996 critically lauded film, Trainspotting. The film will be based off the novel, Porno by Irvine Welsh. With the runaway success of Slumdog Millionaire, it's no surprise Boyle has left his heart in Bombay. The director is teaming up with Anurag Kashyap for the film Bombay Velvet starring John Abraham, Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.
Not only is this a treat for the film community, but for Bollywood fans worldwide. For years, the Khans have been in talks to co-star in a movie but dropped out due to scheduling and creative creative conflicts. I'll be sure to reveal more details as they come in, but in the meantime be sure to watch check out DesiYou's Interview with Danny Boyle at the Post Oscar Party.

Well, funny guys Danny Pudi and Donald Glover from NBC's latest comedy Communityseem to get the ideaimprovising a little diddy in hopes of helping them study Spanish. It's kind of a relief to see Oprah go light. What will the threesome chat about with Oprah? Check out a preview for Monday's show.
The lovable duo are gracing the cover of the October issue of Vogue India, promoting their upcoming flick,My Name is Khan. Although with the recent confrontation at Newark airport and filming in San Francisco this past summer, it's safe to say the film has had its share of publicity. It's nice to see the pair relaxed and looking sexy. Check out more scans at a ShahRukh and Kajol's fansite.
Neil Patrick Harris is no virgin when it comes to hosting award shows, but with last year's disastrous merry go round of five rotating hosts, I was feeling a bit quesy. Thanksfully, things were not horrible. In fact, I can't remember the last time I enjoyed watching an awards show since 2006's Emmy show with Red One (Conan O'Brien, not Lady Gaga's music producer).
Harris, did what he did best: sing. Sure, he had jokes but didn't try too hard gunning for the funniest guy in the room (intimidating considering the top talent in the room: Conan, Colbert, Stewart, the comedy writers). In fact, he was downright humble pleading to the audience in his opening number, "to not touch the remote" and instead stay in the room to watch the unfolding action. Broken down by category, many of the award winners of the night weren't a huge surprise, although Pushing Daisies won more awards than shows currently on air.
Among my favorites: Mad Men for Best Drama Series, 30 rock Best Comedy Series and the now defunct Pushing Daisies Kristen Chenowith for best actress. True Blood-the most fangtastic show EVER-which was largely shut out, got a teeny dose of love winning best breakthrough tv momen.
In short, Alien is back! The Academy Award winning franchise is getting a second life with Ridley Scott at the helm of a prequel which is set to start production in 2010. Fan boys and girls are over the moon, but who’s the most excited of them all? DesiYou’sco-founder, budding film maker and gamer Harish Rao. Harish opened up about his perspective on the news that’s pleasantly shaken up everybody.
Given that you’re a huge fanboy, how excited are you for the Ridley Scott alien prequel.
I gotta take this back to my high school days. The amount of time I spend watching these films...almost creating a reality that I was going to work at Fox because of the franchise. I must have seen the movie 50 times. Eventually when I had the wonderful opportunity to work at Fox Interactive, I would let producers know if there is ever an Alien project I needed to be involved.
Even with alien resurrection, I was able to visit the set which was on the lot at Fox. To come back and see this announcement... I spoke to my former boss and we were over the moon. I want to go back to Fox and work on this thing. It’s not the fact that it’s the announcement of the prequel. As a fan whether you like a franchise it’s one thing, but in this case is unique there have been rumors about it. This project has been floating around for 2-3 years.
Can you talk more about your professional link to Aliens?
Before the desiyou experience, I worked at 20th century Foxand produced video games. One of the things that was exciting was the main producer that jumped on board resurrected the Alien Vs Predator franchise. Prior to that it only existed as a comic book. So Dave stalker, producer of the AVP series deserves all credit in the world for bringing the franchise to life.
I was one of the associate producers on the project. We were going through archives, through comic books and forums and from there we were able to craft a story and video game.
Given how closely fans follow this franchise, were you cognizaent of any potential fan backlash?
The AVP forum was created right around that time and was the resource for all alien fans that were instrumental in developing the game. We did beta testing and got out to fans. AVP forums helped make it that much better. There was interaction between fans and once the fan community got wind of it, they wanted to know everything, no holds barred.
How would casual gamers adapt to this? This seems to be more for the hardcore gamers.
Alien games have been around for a long time. Prior to us working on the Alien game, Konami made a great game called Alien Syndrome..way back in the day..I’m talking 1992 and 1993. Atari jaguar put out a predator game. Rebellion is releasing alien vs predator for all the new systems and new generation consoles. Casual gaming is in its infancy Alien vs. predator is made for gamers. Don’t necessarily see anything casual about it.
Since it’s a prequel, who do you think would be a good fit for Sigourney’s Ellen Ripley?
As a fan and geek fan of the franchise, the ex of Alien the first movie which is vivid in everyone Alien fans’ mind. Everyone has associated Sigourney with Alien. It put out threads of storylines that were unconnected. Crash landed alien ships with alien eggs..it’s soo fantastic because you don’t know where Alien ship came from..or the space jockey created attached to the gun..so many threads in the story. It’s so soo amazing because so many threads unanswered..reason why so amazing because everything single alien fan worth their salt..wondering where did the alien come from..so questions..what has happened is that they went with one story thread..the planet LV427..developing story after aliens have been discovered..its one story thread.
The alien franchise..and this is true of the comic books. They’ve done a great job..they pull on these different prequel threads..whole backstory already created in the comics..completely different than where alien has been taken off.
Alien was a commercial and critical success winning several awards including an Oscar. Other than Star Wars, why do you think the Academy hasn’t recognized more science fiction movies?
Academy Awards recognize films that are of a certain genre. These movies don’t touch these genres. Genre for action films, science fiction, horror, action genre..aren’t regarded as material for academy awards. Having said that with the Alien franchise, you’ve got good evidence of this. In 1986 Aliens comes out and Sigourney weaver is the most memorable Actress to grace the screen that year. The next year she does Gorrillas in the Mist and she gets the Academy Award for that film.
Why? Do you think the storyline wasn’t good enough?
I think results speak for themselves. Even James Cameron’s first Oscar came for Titanic. He should have gotten Oscars for Terminator 2, The Abyss and Alien. It does come down to perception. I think its fine. It’s okay..it is what it is. Can you give an Oscar for Alien? Are there better movies. Story wise I would make that argument. If those lines are drawn..
Thoughts on
James Cameron and 3D technology
James Cameron is always about pushing the envelope. He started the Terminator franchise and now it’s being taken over by other people. But getting back to the Alien stuff...I think the bigger part of the story..not only is it greenlit, but the fact is Ridley is announced to direct. From what I understand, he wasn’t going to direct for a while..it’s the ultimate. I don’t know the equivalent, there’s no equivalent. There’s nothing to compare like, this is a classic film I don’t think people understand. A couple of online publications have put together top 100 trailers of all time. Alien is number one trailer of all time.
More on Alien
Before Alien there was no such thing as Sci Fi Horror. There was science fiction: Stars Wars, Star Trek, and then horror films, but never the two trains met until 1979. Ridley bursts on scene, but goes on to film maker legendary status. With Blade runner he cemented himself as science fiction maven director. He’s legend, Thelma and Louise, Gladiator. He’s really versatile. Ridley Scott is that level on par with Stanley Kubrick.
Critics be damned! Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor’s latest flick Kambakkht Ishq garnered an impressive Rs 19 crore on last Friday’s opening day.
Critics be damned! Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor’s latest flick Kambakkht Ishq garnered an impressive Rs 19 crore on last Friday’s opening day.
Despite great numbers, both films have had mixed reviews from critics. Kambakkht Ishq’s other claim to fame are cameos from action hero Sylvester Stallone, Superman’s Brandon Routh and Denise Richards.
It’s official! Kalpen Modi has moved from Hugh Laurie’s house to the White House. According to the Associated Press, he started his gig as a liason for the White House and Asian communities in the Office of Public Liason on Monday.
The actor who goes by the name Kal Penn will be using his birth name Kalpen Modi and told reporters on a conference call, “I expect to be treated just like any other staff member.”
As liason Kal will be connecting Obama with Asian-American and Pacific Islander communities and arts groups and ensuring that these communities have a voice calling his role, “front door to the White House.”what kinds of films would you like to see in the works?
The AFP recently wrote a piece highlighting the moving behind the camera.
Not only are actors moving onto producing, but they are also moving behind the masala fixtures seen in Bollywood.
There is Saif Ali Khan who stepped into the role of a first time producer with Love Aaj Kal under Illuminati Films. Khan cited his need to do something different, “I want to be creatively satisfied as an actor, therefore I am putting in my money in projects that I believe in.”
Saif’s girlfriend, actress Kareena Kapoor who is reportedly in talks to buy the rights of a French film she’d like to produce and Slumdog Millionaire star Anil Kapoor who produced Short Kut: The Con is On through his self titled company, Anil Kapoor Films are just a few of top names expanding their resume.
It’s encouraging news, after all with the exception of Aamir Khan who helped produced the Academy Award nominated Laagan along with Taare Zameen Par and Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment most film fraternities in Bollywood came from Bollywood dynasties: the Kapoor, Chopras, and Johars to name a few.
Since Bollywood is making an honest effort at moving away from the conventional song and dance formula, what kinds of films would you like to see in the works?
