The Angry Critic & Smiling Critic take on The Departed in Episode 1 of the Angry Critics Corner Video Show

It's refreshing to see one get passionate & up in arms about a film, especially in the age of duh entertainment
( I'm looking at you JackAss 2), but it's also nice to have balance! In comes the Smiling Critic, Kiran Shergill .

Join Kiran & Harish in the very first Angry Critics Corner Video Show...this week they serve up their take on Martin Scorsese's "The Departed". Be warned, the words "bad" & "Jack Nicholsan" appear in the same sentence..

The IAAC 2006

Hello everyone in Internet land. For those of you not up to your older pop culture, Ed Sullivan said the same thing (roughly) a few decades ago except he said "Hello everyone out there in Television Land" My how the times have changed!

This is the Angry Critic and if you don't know me, then please take 3, 5, 15, 30 minutes? out of your day and check out my movie reviews and witness me getting angry about films and even a few interviews along the way. Here is an example:

Most recently I attended the IAAC 2006 in New York which featured the premiere of Mira Nair's anxiously anticipated next film THE NAMESAKE. For a preview of all the movies that you missed :) take a look here:

Overall the festival was amazing, but then again it was set in new York now wasn't it? Perhaps the combination of the New York atmosphere and the film festival made it especially mesmerizing. The opening night premiere and film of the NAMESAKE is one of those truly great events I will remember in my life. A great film, great experience and good times with good friends afterward. Stay tuned to DesiYou for a dedicated IAAC webpage to see all the content we took, interviews, discussions and general good times.

DesiYou has officially reached the East Coast event though it is a West Coast Company!

The rest of the films in the film festival had a good blend of different types of films, some were good, some not so good, but overall a good diaspora of films for a discerning public.

I'll be back soon, so keep your eyes peeled!

Meet the Desis..Part 1

DesiYou.JPG

I'm all about puns & play on words, so I couldn't help but use "Meet the Desis" as the title for this post. As the Desi You team blogs about our upcoming endeavours its only fair you know who's behind the site that never sleeps..

Ash is the CEO of Desi You and the "multi-tasker". When he's not presenting at TIE conferences, contributing to various blogs, Ash is off making deals for DY. If you see a post at 2 a.m its probably Ash, because he does not sleep!

Harish is the Operations/Creative Director and Desi You Angry Critic and rightly so! Not only can he work magic with graphics & photoshop, Harish also adds fun to my sometimes boring days with great quotes such as "Onward & Upward", & "Line your ducks in a row" and of course his take on the latest films

Pranjul , is the marketing director for DY & likes to refer himself as the " Mayor".

& finally me (Amruta). As the operations manager my role is to help my team line their ducks in a row (Thanks Harish) so that we can all work to present you the best of South Asian content & culture!

Do the DESI..

Desired.jpg

It seems everywhere I go everybody is doing the DESI..Brangelina in Pune, Shakira with her VMA "Hips don't lie" performance a few months back and most notably Spanish actress Penelope Cruz. Cruz is part of Gap's Product Red Campaign where celebrities don clothing with the word "Red" emblazoned on the center. Being the big nerd I am, I was pleasantly surprised to see Penelope with the word (DESI)red on a billboard in SanFrancisco..

It's an exciting time for South Asian's everywhere and at Desi You, we are always looking to highlight the accomplishments of artists, musicians, and fashionista's in the South Asian scene.
We take our our motto "Empower the Desi in You" very seriously =)

This past week, our very own Harish Rao and Pranjul Srivastava attended the IACC film festival in NYC.
Pranjul & Harish had a chance to interview some of the best & brightest in the industry, which you should check out at

Desi You.com

We hope you'll join us on our efforts to Empower the Desi in You and "Do the Desi"..
