"Chath: A Roof Without Walls" Movie Trailer
Synopsis: When Bob and Rex both homeless and originally from India meet each other, the experience is far from pleasant. Bob is the bully and Rex gets pushed around. They ultimately find a common ground to co-exist. Food and shelter are their only goals in life and they remain distant from ambitions and desires. Things start to change when they meet Sahana, a homeless Indian girl. Her views attract Bob’s senses. He slowly starts questioning the very existence of his self and wants to face the truth and change. Rex is content with the present. Sahana’s presence slowly creates a rift in their friendship. Emotions heighten to huge proportions resulting in a nerve-wrecking climax. Do they survive the ordeal? Is Sahana able to eradicate the homeless mindset of Bob and Rex ? Is Rex able to stop Bob?

What i don’t understand about these movies is why does it look like they are done by engineers? Even the synopsis looks like a thesis paper, instead of asking all of these questions, make a trailer in which those subtleties are revealed in the trailer itself.
The end of the trailer with the guy clutching himself in the cold was especially laughable!

Simple Desi is either the director himself or some self promoting jerk we all know of from the past. Look! the filming looks really bad, stupid and amateurish. Why or why do directors don’t like depth of field and some contrast on the look, especially on a low blow like this. even if this film gets distribution. who’ll actually rent it?, and now a days everyone can get distribution, its not a big deal anymore. The big deal now is the big paycheck which is far away for this film because after the first 2 weeks the film will be forgotten into dust faster then you can say “cat in a hat”

ok, I watched the trailer again. Just one question. What the hell is this movie about any way, and why is there girl on a beach poping up out of not where in between emotional scenes. And is there a frame glitch in the middle of the trailer where you see the guy quickly laugh and some random scene pops in. Also is this the same filmmaker who made the film with the famous line “you treate me like a dog” . This trailer and movie look worst then Shit. Sorry but enough is enough of being polite. This a just too much, please, please follow your passion and you’ll be the best at it, but this is certainly not it. (Trailer is worst then F-)
Swordfish you may be right in your way but it is unfortunate that film business is very unpredictable. If the storyline is good and performance is good there are chances of a film getting recognise. Sword fish its unfortunate that a film like Dhoom 2 also had a life of 2 weeks and they only make money in those two weeks. Correct me if I am wrong. Any tom dick and harry makes a film its out on bulbule.com the very first week. Now I am talking about an Indian film and that is a fact. So if one movie has to do a business then I am sure it has to do it first week or two. So you are right even this film people will forget about it after 2 weeks. I dont really care if it does or not but I am sure with the trailer people are surely going to want to see it. I really dont know if you are critic or a journalist or a filmmaker yourself but it surely did cought your attention even if did in negative way.

Again, simply fact is the trailer is just to cheesey, its like it was editied by a high school kid or some doctor wanting to do something creative. Just face the facts that the trailer is bad, bad, bad and nothing more. also if the filmmaker is reading this, when you do a close up, please do a 3/4 F-stop depth of field which makes even a video look close enough to film, it s a foucs done on 180 shutter speed with enough back light.
I just checked out the website. the main poster is very poorly editied as you can see the white edges around the person face and the hat. Which shows that it wasn’t done by a photshop or flash expert, at leaste blur the dman image from the edges so the eye doesn’t catch it at the first time.

Regarding your comment about the Mother Theresea quote in the trailer, thanks for pointing that out, you just proved exactly how amateur the filmmakers are, if this is in fact the intention of the filmmakers, to insert these “statements” into the trailer from Mother Theresea without acknowledging her name next to the quote, there is word for doing that, its called plagiarism, look it up!
Arvind, you seem to have some good insight, but the film business is NOT unpredictable, its very predictable and formulaic. If you notice right now the rage in America is independent horror films, it doesn’t matter the cast, the genre is successful from THE RING, SAW series, remakes of 80s horror films, GRUDGE etc. they are all box office successes, and once one does well you will see the spin off. Not ONE indian american film has had any commercial success, in fact the first one that will enjoy success in the boxoffice is THE NAMESAKE due out in a few months by a veteran filmmaker in Mira Nair. The subject matter of these indian films made in the US just isn’t intriguing enough to attract distributors, but according to Shrihari I my film knowledge is poor. I bet you Shrihari has no clue what I just spoke about!

Ring was shot at a pretty decent budget it was not a film like Chath or matter of fact Kahan chale gaye hum or what ever. 48 million dollars. Boy oh Boy what did I said ???? 48 million dollars!

Water was washed out film now it may recover the money as it is nominated for Oscar. So no film who ever is making cannot predict that their film will be hit.
This movie shot at a budget of 40 thousand dollars did a business of almost 1.5 million dollars on DVDs.
The simple rule to make a movie profitable is control the cost. I am sure any movie will make money.
In Indian cinema the best example is Page 3 movie.
Also do you know that almost over over 1000 movies are made in America which are horror films. So just wanted to know if yo could provide the statistics on those films???
Please if you had gone to AFM which I have been attending past two years was surprise to see that AFM had almost 80 percent of their films only horror or thriller. You just showed me the plight of 3 or 4 movies what about the rest of the horror films???

lets remember the subject (CHATH), I really don’t think even The Namaske would be a winner dollar wise in US. It just look like any other Indi film that will come and go, I can see it getting big if it builds up momentum like Monsoon Wedding, but please Chath is Gazillion miles away from that. because if this is the trailer that will market the film then I can write it in blood that it won’t do any good. Change the trailer and perhaps you’ll change your faith.
this sh-t makes me sick, everyone bitches about how hard it is to get a break in hollywood, well, if it were easy we would have chath: a wall without a sliding glass door, or whatever, on the big screen, and if i saw this movie i would have to be on LSD or Pot, then MAYBE! i would enjoy it. Mike has a point here, when do you ever see one bum, let alone three bums, and three indian bums in a house? What the f***? How do I know the budget of the film?I know the budget because I asked the filmmaker once over the email last year, but who in the hell is “Raj” and the movies you’re referring to. I am sure you guys and your buddy Raj is famous in East Coast but the bottom line is the trailer sucks!!!, you also mentioned about distributors being on the east cost. But its hard to get “Indian” filmmakers doing good work. Take Dhoom 2 for example. Aditya Chopra spent 10 crore more after watching Krissh for this film and yet I didn’t see the first 20 crocre in the film or the money in Krrish and where it went, all you could see is mask painting with actors standing in front of green screen. These are the wealthy people who can actually make it happen but enough said. I just hope Yash Chopra brings the company back to its roots and make good emotional romantic films. I have one question, why do all the IT guys want to become filmmaker. Do they see an unconstructive code in this Industry that we’re all missing or is it just simply they are trying to hack the code of “how to make that perfect movie”. Either way I think you should stick to your C++ and XML books and leave the filmmaking part to the ones who are meant to do this.

All these directors of American Desi to American Chai are no where to be found because they only had one Idea of “culture clash” that bird is dead and gone. I am now hearing things like some of those directors are making shorts in LA and its just a shame that they don’t have the balls to keep making feature without having any financial backing. Synopsis: When Bob and Rex both homeless and originally from India meet each other, the experience is far from pleasant. Bob is the bully and Rex gets pushed around. They ultimately find a common ground to co-exist. Food and shelter are their only goals in life and they remain distant from ambitions and desires. Things start to change when they meet Sahana, a homeless Indian girl. Her views attract Bob’s senses. He slowly starts questioning the very existence of his self and wants to face the truth and change. Rex is content with the present. Sahana’s presence slowly creates a rift in their friendship. Emotions heighten to huge proportions resulting in a nerve-wrecking climax. Do they survive the ordeal? Is Sahana able to eradicate the homeless mindset of Bob and Rex ? Is Rex able to stop Bob?

What i don’t understand about these movies is why does it look like they are done by engineers? Even the synopsis looks like a thesis paper, instead of asking all of these questions, make a trailer in which those subtleties are revealed in the trailer itself.
The end of the trailer with the guy clutching himself in the cold was especially laughable!

Simple Desi is either the director himself or some self promoting jerk we all know of from the past. Look! the filming looks really bad, stupid and amateurish. Why or why do directors don’t like depth of field and some contrast on the look, especially on a low blow like this. even if this film gets distribution. who’ll actually rent it?, and now a days everyone can get distribution, its not a big deal anymore. The big deal now is the big paycheck which is far away for this film because after the first 2 weeks the film will be forgotten into dust faster then you can say “cat in a hat”

ok, I watched the trailer again. Just one question. What the hell is this movie about any way, and why is there girl on a beach poping up out of not where in between emotional scenes. And is there a frame glitch in the middle of the trailer where you see the guy quickly laugh and some random scene pops in. Also is this the same filmmaker who made the film with the famous line “you treate me like a dog” . This trailer and movie look worst then Shit. Sorry but enough is enough of being polite. This a just too much, please, please follow your passion and you’ll be the best at it, but this is certainly not it. (Trailer is worst then F-)
Swordfish you may be right in your way but it is unfortunate that film business is very unpredictable. If the storyline is good and performance is good there are chances of a film getting recognise. Sword fish its unfortunate that a film like Dhoom 2 also had a life of 2 weeks and they only make money in those two weeks. Correct me if I am wrong. Any tom dick and harry makes a film its out on bulbule.com the very first week. Now I am talking about an Indian film and that is a fact. So if one movie has to do a business then I am sure it has to do it first week or two. So you are right even this film people will forget about it after 2 weeks. I dont really care if it does or not but I am sure with the trailer people are surely going to want to see it. Again, simply fact is the trailer is just to cheesey, its like it was editied by a high school kid or some doctor wanting to do something creative. Just face the facts that the trailer is bad, bad, bad and nothing more. also if the filmmaker is reading this, when you do a close up, please do a 3/4 F-stop depth of field which makes even a video look close enough to film, it s a foucs done on 180 shutter speed with enough back light.
I just checked out the website. the main poster is very poorly editied as you can see the white edges around the person face and the hat. Which shows that it wasn’t done by a photshop or flash expert, at leaste blur the dman image from the edges so the eye doesn’t catch it at the first time.

Regarding your comment about the Mother Theresea quote in the trailer, thanks for pointing that out, you just proved exactly how amateur the filmmakers are, if this is in fact the intention of the filmmakers, to insert these “statements” into the trailer from Mother Theresea without acknowledging her name next to the quote, there is word for doing that, its called plagiarism, look it up!
Arvind, you seem to have some good insight, but the film business is NOT unpredictable, its very predictable and formulaic. If you notice right now the rage in America is independent horror films, it doesn’t matter the cast, the genre is successful from THE RING, SAW series, remakes of 80s horror films, GRUDGE etc. they are all box office successes, and once one does well you will see the spin off. Not ONE indian american film has had any commercial success, in fact the first one that will enjoy success in the boxoffice is THE NAMESAKE due out in a few months by a veteran filmmaker in Mira Nair. The subject matter of these indian films made in the US just isn’t intriguing enough to attract distributors, but according to Shrihari I my film knowledge is poor. I bet you Shrihari has no clue what I just spoke about!

This movie shot at a budget of 40 thousand dollars did a business of almost 1.5 million dollars on DVDs.
The simple rule to make a movie profitable is control the cost. I am sure any movie will make money.
In Indian cinema the best example is Page 3 movie.
Also do you know that almost over over 1000 movies are made in America which are horror films. So just wanted to know if yo could provide the statistics on those films???
Please if you had gone to AFM which I have been attending past two years was surprise to see that AFM had almost 80 percent of their films only horror or thriller. You just showed me the plight of 3 or 4 movies what about the rest of the horror films???

lets remember the subject (CHATH), I really don’t think even The Namaske would be a winner dollar wise in US. It just look like any other Indi film that will come and go, I can see it getting big if it builds up momentum like Monsoon Wedding, but please Chath is Gazillion miles away from that. because if this is the trailer that will market the film then I can write it in blood that it won’t do any good. Change the trailer and perhaps you’ll change your faith.

How do I know the budget of the film?I know the budget because I asked the filmmaker once over the email last year, but who in the hell is “Raj” and the movies you’re referring to. I am sure you guys and your buddy Raj is famous in East Coast but the bottom line is the trailer sucks!!!, you also mentioned about distributors being on the east cost.
